Apparently, the opinion of a machine now officially carries more weight than the opinion of a human. Somebody should have woken me up and said this day had come. And no, I’m not talking about the naughty computer in Eagle Eye…

Attentionwizard is a service which employs a computer algorithm to predict how distracting your homepage layout will be to a potential visitor. It creates a visual “heatmap” which shows the most interesting parts of the page as red and the least interesting parts as green.
I tried the service (which is still in beta) by registering and uploading a screenshot of the About page (which was the homepage at that time… huh, that’s a story for another day!) for evaluation by the digital oracle.
The machine chewed on it for something like 30 seconds (oh, what suspense), and this was what I got back:

Hm, I wouldn’t exactly hang that in my study… Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Apparently, the E logo is the center of attention on that page! Oh, blimey. But I already knew that. In fact (gasp!), I intended it.
Oh, well not to make light of their efforts though. I’m sure somebody somewhere will find it useful.
I just think it would have been easier to ask a few of your pals “Dude, how does my website look?”…
